A Mother’s Embrace

Story from the Field

Hi Friend

Each month, we’ll share a real story from the field — moments that show what restoration actually looks like behind the scenes.

Story from the Field: A Mother’s Embrace

This week in Tanzania, something quiet but powerful happened.

Our social worker accompanied Merikisedeki and his three siblings from the Centre of Hope to visit their biological mother. For many of the children in our care, these visits are not simple moments. They carry history — trauma, separation, unanswered questions, and fragile hope.

When the children arrived, their mother was overwhelmed with emotion. She held them tightly. She cried. She thanked the team again and again.

For years she struggled with severe mental health challenges. At one point, it was not safe or stable for her children to remain at home. That is why they are currently being cared for through Collective Calling

But here is the hopeful part.

During this visit, we saw real progress. She shared that her health has significantly improved. She has accepted her situation. The severe stress she once carried has lessened. There was clarity in her words and strength in her posture. Most importantly, there was love — steady and present.

These visits are intentional. They are not just emotional moments. They are part of a structured family reintegration journey. Our goal is never institutional care long-term. Our goal is restoration where possible. Healing. Stability. Rebuilding what was broken.

The children returned to the Centre encouraged. Their mother remains connected to their lives. The relationship is being nurtured carefully, safely, and with professional oversight.

This is what family empowerment looks like in real time.

It is not dramatic. It is not instant. It is not easy.

But it is real.

And step by step, families are being strengthened.
