Every month, we are reminded that real transformation rarely happens overnight. More often, it happens quietly, through consistent presence, patient care, difficult conversations, and small moments of hope that slowly begin rebuilding a child’s future.

This month’s update is a reflection of that journey.

Behind the figures you will read are children learning to trust again, families beginning to reconnect, and young people discovering that their story does not have to end where it began. From counselling sessions and family follow-up visits to educational support and spiritual growth, April was filled with moments that reminded us why this work matters so deeply.

One story that stayed with us this month was that of Prince Hosea, a young boy working at the local market carrying luggage to help support his family while still fighting to remain in school. His story reflects both the realities many families face and the resilience we continue to witness every day.

Prince Hosea’s Story

During a recent family assessment visit, our social work team met a young boy named Prince Hosea.

Prince lives with his mother and five siblings in a home facing severe financial hardship. With very little stable income available to the family, even basic school supplies had become difficult to afford. Yet despite these challenges, Prince continues fighting to stay in education.

On weekends, he travels to the local market where he carries heavy luggage and goods for strangers in exchange for small amounts of money. At just 14 years old, the income he earns helps contribute toward school needs and supports his mother and younger siblings.

What stood out most during the visit was not simply the hardship the family faces, but Prince’s quiet determination. Rather than giving up on school, he continues doing whatever he can to remain in class and help his family survive difficult circumstances.

Following the assessment, practical educational support was provided to the family, including school bags, exercise books, pens, and other essential learning materials. While simple in appearance, these items represented something much deeper for the family: encouragement, dignity, and the reminder that they are not alone.

Prince’s story reflects the reality many vulnerable children face across the region — children carrying adult responsibilities long before they should have to. Yet it also reflects resilience, perseverance, and hope.
